We started the day at the Post Office with two bags full of things to post to Oz. We were fortunate to be served by a lady who told us she had no English, but managed quite well to provide boxes and an envelope and to help us fill out the forms. We gave her a little koala badge which seemed to please her greatly.
We had no specific places to see today, so we started with the little dome in the Old Palace. We thought it might tell us more about the Duomo cupola, which was built without scaffolding or temporary supports, but it was just a five minute tour of the town projected on the ceiling of the dome.
There was a free entry building nearby, which mostly housed expensive stalls, but had a violin maker at work.
The partially made pieces were on display.
There are thousands of Pinocchios for sale in Florence but this one is unique.
As recommended by Alex, our eco guide, we paid four euros each for entry to the Bargello Museum. Very good value and not at all crowded, but we did have to empty our pockets to ensure we had no concealed weapons of art destruction.
It contained a large number of statues, including two by Michelangelo and several by Donatello. Statues of Bacchus were popular at outdoor venues to set the party mood.
The golden fleece told us that this one was Jason.
There were a lot of delicate works carved in ivory.
This cannon was rated as the most artistic ever built.
We went back to the church with the organ recital and heard the Hallelujah Chorus, Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and Toccata and Fugue. The organ was upstairs behind us.
We followed up with a good value buffet meal under a canopy spouting cool mist.
The small buses are electric here and there are many types of small electric cars. This one is called Tasso.
It all helps keep the noise and pollution down.
