Our last full day at sea saw us farewelling our housekeeper Adrian, our waiters Randy and Julius and our dinner companions Joan and Geoff. We received our final account statement for on board spending and found that they refunded all of our internet charges because we are now Gold Members and they did not pass on the US200 that we agreed to pass to the crew tipping pool. As a result we had US150 credit that returns to Cunard, but we did well to spend so little. Many passengers from Sydney would have spent thousands on drinks.
We went to two lectures today. Ruth Shackleton started work after school as an airline steward for an Arabian Airline and worked her way up in the RAF to become squadron leader of the Red Devils aerobatic group. She was involved in all the recent wars.
The Commodore of the Cunard Fleet, who has captained hundreds of Atlantic crossings, told us about his trip to the Titanic in a bathysphere, 2.5 miles down. It took 2.5 hours each way to travel and a polystyrene cup which gets carried down outside was turned into a hard lump the size of a thimble by the water pressure.
The evening concert consisted of Roy Walker with more of his oldie but goodie jokes and three black American men singers called the Fly Rights whose signature act was Nat King Cole's song of the same name. They were good dancers and harmonisers.
