DAY 70 TUESDAY JUNE 2 - AUSTRIA - WOW

We did a final tour of the Old Town in Regensburg.  When we called in at the Tourism Centre the young man told us he was a Maroon's supporter, as he once lived in Brisbane.  We told him that the Maroons beat the Blues by one point, but that Queenslanders were only Australians under sufferance.  Their state was the most important thing.  We should thank Bevan for persuading us to visit Regensburg as it is quite unique.

On Regensburg Station  the train was ten minutes late and by the time it left it was 15 minutes behind. We only had 21 minutes for our changeover in Munich but the guard assured us we would have enough time, which we did.  We headed south and over the border to Austria, then took the main line that goes to Switzerland and got off at Jenbach, which is the last station before Innsbruck.

On our last trip here the Alps had us enthralled and this time it is still enthralling.  We thought of our bushwalking friend Freddy, who grew up here and used to return whenever he could.  We crossed and followed glacier-fed rivers, with snowcapped mountains on either side and enjoyed the colours of the window boxes full of spring flowers.

Lyn is reading Heidi on the Kindle and any of the houses we saw up on the hills could have been where she lived.  We have settled into our Gutshof Resort in Mayrhofen/Zillertal, as arranged by Luxurty Escapes.  We have a fairly large room with a balcony that looks up to a snow covered mountain.  This is our view.

The deal we bought includes, breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea, with $200 worth of goodies from the minibar in our room.  Everything is $7 so we will get through that over the next four days.
