DAY 83 MONDAY JUNE 15 - BUONA SERA, ITALIA

Our Thollon taxi arrived at 9:55 just as we left the house and walked up the driveway.  M. Levet dropped us at the wharf on the lake for 30 euros,  and Lyn had a cappuccino while we waited for the gallery to open. We wanted to buy a metal art piece but we were not sure it could be sent to Australia.   We gave our details to the manager and he said the artist would contact us with a final quote for posting to Australia.

The ferry took us to Lausanne Ouchy and the Metro carried us up the hill to Lausanne Gare where we waited two hours for our super European City Train direct to Milan via Brig.  This trip took us around Lake Geneva to Montreux and on the way we could see Meillerie and other towns in France.

Then we climbed up to 700 meters in the Alps, with snow on many peaks and through the long tunnels into Italy.  The change in architecture was abrupt.  We skirted Lake Maggiore for some time and tried to take a photo from the speeding train.

We arrived at Milan Central a few minutes late  and found it overcrowded and hosting a refugee support protest which meant we had to steer carefully through the police contingent.  We looked for Via Tunisia and asked twice where it was and were given incorrect directions.  Unfortunately the name of the street was something else, so we went back and took a taxi for 10 euros and arrived in calmer mood.

Our apartment is another sloping garret with a two meter section of standing area and the rest for sitting or lying.  We had to pay 10 euros per day for the air conditioning controllers, which never appeared with Booking.com, but we are quite happy with the facilities and location at Tadino Expo.  We have two attic type balconies, claimed to have a view.  You can see distant mountains if you lean out.

Delicious dinner at the Brickoven next door.  We are still practising "grazie".  All the Italian people are very nice and helpful, we just have to get used to so many of them in one place.
