As the bus was running today we caught it down to Evian and spent the whole day there. On the waterfront there was a sculpture made from driftwood. We saw quite a few in other spots as well. You must work this one out for yourself.
We walked to the old town and had a look at the church that was first built in the thirteenth century. It was Gothic inside and fairly plain.
We found a patisserie that sold coffee and had a tartelette aux framboises and a St Honore. It is time we left France as the cakes are just too good.
Everywhere we went we saw this little sign of the town and it was in supersize on a mound, and made of timber boards. It took us a while to get the Gestalt.
We saw the outside of the Evian bottling factory and watched people queue to fill up bottles from the little pipe outside.
We took a free ride on the funicular railway up the hill. It consisted of two trains, one going up and the other coming down, joined by a cable so that they balanced each other. They passed on a siding halfway.
We walked back down and it started to rain and we took shelter in a small gallery which had this water trough outside. There are many of these here. We found something in the gallery that we might buy.
The Tourist Office had a toilet underneath, but they charged us one euro each, which is what we paid for our 20 minute bus trip. We are not impressed.
We spent the rest of the day strolling along the waterfront promenade, like many others, and just sitting watching the world go by.
At 3pm the musical fountain played for half an hour. It was fun to watch people of all ages dancing to the music and playing with the water spouts.
They had an electric boat with solar panels on the roof that was taking people along the lake for a trip, but it was a bit expensive.
