Our plan for today was to travel to Genoa on the fast train, meet Dave and Angie Hartley at 1pm and spend the afternoon on the waterfront. Unfortunately we were late and missed them. Our train arrived in Genoa 25 minutes late, but we still had enough time to get to the waterfront. We took the wrong street and ended up a kilometre further south and could not get through blocked areas to get north. By the time we caught a taxi and arrived at the Fish Market we were over an hour late and they had moved on. We spent the afternoon enjoyably strolling along the nice wharf area, which had great Italian tiling on the paths. These ones were around a building from 1909.
Genoa is an interesting city with lovely old buildings and statues mixed with more recent architecture. We saw a lady playing a recorder extremely well, but she was the only busker on a long touristy strip.
We liked the old galleon
with Neptune and cherub on the prow.
We had afternoon tea in a cafe next to the submarine.
Have you ever seen a terrarium as big as this?
On the way back we saw the Cinque Terre beaches again.
And got a good view of the Marble Quarries on the mountains.
We got back at 7:45 for an early night. Tony Powell sent us an email to say that the Five Lands Walk had an increase of 5% participation despite unfavourable weather forecast.
