The included breakfast today was quite good, so we left the Botel at 9pm, well victualled. We followed the Danube bank upstream for two kilometres and on the way found a swag of Porsche Panameras ready to take off from a luxury hotel. Presumably this was a road test and photo shoot taking place today.
Next we climbed up to the town castle which has been around since the stone age but was rebuilt completely in 1953 under the communists. It is very beautiful and strong and we surmised it afforded the party members residential and administrative luxury.
The view from the castle was great. This is the city wall around the old town.
After wandering around the old town we judged that the temperature was over 30C again, so returned to our room from 1pm to 4pm. When we climbed the gangplank at 4pm there were two river cruisers docking to the bank and to our surprise they double parked, so that passengers passed through the other ship to get ashore.
We watched another folk concert at 6pm; it was the AD HOC BEND (band?), consisting of two accordions, a keyboard, a drummer and a female singer. It was interesting but without knowing the language the music became monotonous after half an hour.
We went to a meat restaurant and had a lamb chop from New Zealand plus beans and snow peas. Good paleo meal?
We were surprised to find this statue of Hans Christian Andersen in the promenade. Google tells us he sailed down the Danube on his way to Istanbul, calling in at Bratislava. Perhaps he stayed in a house near the statue. We cannot explain the snail at his feet.
At 8pm a man came to our room and connected up our brand new TV so we can watch the news tonight.
